Losing Weight Versus Ideal Weight.
Weight loss have always been one of the most sought after and probably most difficult endeavors that men and women alike have ever had to contemplate on. The obsession and hype of it all mostly roots from the ever-dictating media that skinny is beautiful. With gorgeous and oftentimes stick figure models plastered across glam magazines, and cat-walking on the ramps, many have sadly fallen under the idea that thin is the way to beauty. Although maintaining that ideal weight is, at best, beneficial, what many people do not realize is that the need for weight loss is dependent on one’s body mass index. Body mass index is roughly defined as the ideal weight for an individual; its equation includes the height and weight of an individual and when calculated yields the ideal mass, or weight of one specific person. With that said, the ideal weight immensely varies from person to person, and depends not what media or society thinks, but completely dependent on a person’s biological make-up.
Whether or not to lose weight is something that should be dictated by health, and health alone; not by what society thinks, and definitely not by what media dictates. Losing weight should arise from the need to achieve health and well-being; if you think that your weight is jeopardizing your health, then it should be the only time to lose weight. The healthiest way to find out if you need to lose weight is by having your body mass calculated, and not by zoning in on that mini-black, size zero dress at the mall.
If however, your body mass suggests that you do need to lose weight, then do it the safe and healthy way. Going into a crash diet may seem like a perfect plan to you, but keep in mind that crash diets greatly depend upon nutritional restriction, i.e, suppressing the body’s caloric intake which in turn leaves you very weak, and oftentimes result to a compromised immune system. So the next time weight loss pops into your head, have your body mass calculated first so as to see whether or not you really need to lose weight.
